The Georgian American University (GAU), located in Tbilisi, has a dynamic and modern history rooted in international collaboration and innovation. The foundation of GAU dates back to 2001, when the concept of the university was developed as an MBA project by Elene Jamarjashvili during her studies in the United States. Initially, the idea was to establish a law-focused institution offering American-style education in Georgia.
In early 2002, the project was brought to Georgia, where planning and partnerships with American and Georgian experts began. The vision attracted international collaboration, including support from experienced professionals in law, business, and education sectors. The university was officially established in 2005 by a joint group of Georgian and American investors. From the beginning, GAU aimed to deliver Western-standard education and combine international academic practices with local needs.
Over the years, GAU expanded significantly by introducing new faculties and programs. Starting with business and law schools, the university later added programs in international relations, engineering, natural sciences, and humanities to meet growing academic demand. The university also upgraded its infrastructure and moved to a modern campus in Tbilisi, equipped with advanced facilities to support high-quality education and research. Today, GAU continues to evolve as a leading private university in Georgia, known for its international approach, innovation, and strong academic development.
